Virtual Nineteenth-Century World’s Fair

April 22nd, 2009 :: by Charlie

On Thursday, April 23rd, from 8:30- 1:30 (with a one-hour break for lunch from 11-12) in the Library East Commons, Dr. Todd Reynolds’s ENGL 1102 classes will be displaying their semester-long group projects in a “Virtual Nineteenth-Century World’s Fair.”

Each group chose one nineteenth-century technology to research for the semester. Their final product is a web-page & presentation on the chosen technology, showing not just how that technology works (although they will have to be able to explain how it works to a non-expert audience), but also inquire as to why it was invented, what narratives does that technology tell about the culture/society/political landscape of its time, how or why it is better than other technologies preceding it, etc.
