New Databases! CollegeSource Online features over 9,800 College Catalogs and Grove’s Dictionary of Art. Project Muse contains full-text journals in the humanities and social sciences

GALILEO’s CollegeSource Online features over 9,800 College Catalogs in complete cover-to-cover, original page format representing 2-year, 4-year, graduate and professional schools along with institutional profiles for all accredited colleges in the United States. The database may be searched by college name, major, enrollment, tuition, degrees, state, or affiliation. There are links to: college home pages, career information, and financial aid information.GALILEO’s Grove’s Dictionary of Art is a “comprehensive art reference work covering all forms of the visual arts: painting, sculpture, architecture, graphic and decorative arts, and photography, from prehistory to the 1990s. An alliance with Bridgeman Art Library now offers access to 30,000 searchable images, which will increase to 100,000 by the end of 1999.

Digital Reference Service - Ask a Librarian Electronic Reference and Real Time Reference.

The Internet & Library Research Clinic is a drop-in clinic that will be staffed by Reference Librarians who can use their expertise to assist students in the information-seeking and research process. This is an opportunity for students to discuss their information needs in an in-depth consultation with a Reference Librarian, who can offer suggestions on how to proceed and can point students to print resources, electronic databases, web sites and much more. The Clinic will be staffed during the Fall Semester through Friday, Dec. 3rd, and will then reopen in the Spring Semester.

New option available for linking to and searching electronic journals with Ebsco Online Journal Search

A link to Ebsco Online Journal Search is included as an access option for titles the library has on subscription, which are also available from this service. Ebsco Online Journal Search allows users to link to the full-text of electronic journals. Users can also do an ArticleSearch in Ebsco Online to find articles by keywords or phrases in titles, abstracts and full-text. Additional search options include searching by publisher keywords, author, journal publisher, year or a range of years, and journal volume and number. Users can do a JournalSearch in Ebsco Online to find electronic journals by keywords in titles, ISSNs, or publisher names. A journal homepage is also available which contains a description of the journal and lists editors, editorial guidelines for manuscript submission and links of related interest. Users can also use the Browse feature to see a list of current subscriptions for the library, which are available on Ebsco Online Journal Search.

Fall Semester Library Classes and Tours begin August 30th

The Library offers hour-long classes on a variety of topics, including Library Essentials, Intro to Electronic Information Resources, Advanced Electronic Information Resources, Business Resources, and Engineering Resources. Consult the class schedule and choose a convenient time. Preregistration is not neccessary. Classes are held in the Homer Rice Center on the 1st floor West of the Library, except for Library Essentials, which is held in the Kaiser Room (Room 521) on the 5th floor East. Class schedules and descriptions are available at the Information Services Desk, 1st floor East, and on the Library web page.Library tours will be held Monday - Friday, Aug. 30 - Sept.3. The tours last half an hour, and meet in the Library Rotunda at 11:00 am.

Government Information adds USA Trade CD-ROM

USA Trade CD-ROM is a publication of the National Trade Data Bank. The CD-ROM allows the user to create multi-dimensional tables of import and export statistics. Tables can be manipulated interactively to present data from a variety of perspectives, and individual data items as well as ranges of data items can be selected or de-selected. Data can be exported n a variety of formats (text, dBase, etc.) and is easily cut and pasted into Microsoft Office applications such as Excel.

The Library now offers access to Congressional Universe, Statistical Universe, and Journal Citation Reports - Science Edition. Web of Science now has an additional 5 years of coverage.Congressional Universe is a database and index from Congressional Information Service (CIS), which contains indexing to, and the full text of many publications from Congress. Congressional Universe encompasses topics in public policy, history, sociology, political science, technology and society, and more. Statistical Universe is a database and index from Congressional Information Service (CIS), which provides all statistics issued by the U.S. government back to 1973 through CIS’ American Statistics Index, some 1,000 of the best statistical publications of private and state government sources from 1980 forward through CIS’ Statistical Reference Index, and approximately 2,000 indispensable titles from some 100 international intergovernmental organizations, all published annually since 1983 through CIS’ Index to International Statistics.Statistical Universe is only available on the Georgia Tech campus.

Journal Citation Reports - Science Edition is a comprehensive and unique resource for journal evaluation, showing the relationship between citing and cited journals in a clear, easy-to-use framework. It includes virtually all specialties in the areas of science, technology, and the social sciences.

Social Sciences Citation Index

Now covers 1987-1999. Web of Science allows access to research literature through author, title, subject and to cited references (footnotes, bibliography) published with a scholarly paper.
